IN MEMORIAM OF ROY CARLES SIRAIT - FAREWELL MY BELOVED BROTHER !

Roy Carles Sirait is one of my beloved brother, and he was born in Banjarmasin 15 September 1973. He grew up there until my family moved to Jakarta in 1989. As my father took his early retirement from the Police Department, Roy then came along with my father to Tangerang to stay there to accompany my father. He went to Junior High School and High School in Tangerang. So he spent most of his teenage in Tangerang (West Java).

After graduation from High School in 1992, he went to Bandung and stayed with me for about one year.

He then finally decided to study Social Politics Science at University of Veteran National at Jogjakarta in 1993, but unfortunately he dropped out from this University as he did not attend his class for long semesters. My father took him back to Tangerang and spent his time (again) in Tangerang.

And in 1996 he decided to move to my Sister's (Erna Sirait) house in Tarutung (North Sumatera) to look for the opportunities.

In 1997, he asked my parents' agreement with his idea to study Law at University of Catholic Admajaya in Medan and fortunately my father is in agreement with his idea.

He got so many experiences in life during the time between 1997 until 2004 in Medan including found his soul mate in campus.

And in 2005, he finally decided to marry his lovely lady named Novita Turnip and from his marriage he has a son named BOY SIRAIT. We love to call his son "Bowie", just like we called his father's name "Rowie" or "Owie", rather than Boy (Boi).

His son was born in Tangerang and got hospitalized for about two weeks. He spent his time 24 hours at the Hospital until Boy is recovered.

His family stayed at my father's house in Tangerang and he ran a small shop to be able to support his family.

In 2006, he then decided to return back to Porsea (North Sumatera) and lived there with his wife and son as a family.

At Porsea, he ran a small business with his wife, until he and his wife decided to run a salty fish ("ikan asin/kering") business in early 2008.

In 2009, he got a cute little daughter name "PUTRI KESI SIRAIT".

Just few months before his daughter was born, he got a first hart attack in September 2009 and have to be hospitalized at Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan for about a week. After he recovered from hart attack, he returned back to Porsea.

This period of 8 months (between September 2009 and May 2010) was (I think) his best time ever, as during this time he loved his family so much and took care of it with nicely. This can be seen even though he had to go for business from 24.00 o'clock until 10.00 AM, he still had time to take his kids for just wondering the area of his rented house after he went home rather than sleep/take a nap. If he did not go to his work, he took the kids out in the morning to small shop just to buy his son for snack using his motorbike and say hello to his neighbors. I got so many good stories about him from his neighbors when they gave their deepest condolence.

He also managed to save his money and finally he afforded to buy a small lorry to support his business.

The tragedy was occurred on 31 May 2010, when he and his wife and also the driver used his lorry for a "maiden" trip from Porsea to Batubara, to pick up his merchant.

In the morning he had a heavy breakfast at Batubara, but just after he finished his breakfast at small restaurant, suddenly he got second hart attack. He felt down to the floor made his wife panic. His wife called for help from the people there and also rang me to ask for help.

As I live in Bogor, the things that I could were only guided and/or advised his wife to take him to the hospital and get a first help. The doctor in Batubara only gave him a vitamin.

As his wife was getting more panic, I asked my sister to go directly to Batubara from Kisaran and do what she could help Roy and his wife. My sister got there at noon and took Roy to General Hospital in Kisaran for a better medical treatment.

The doctor in Kisaran suggested my sister and Roy's wife to take him to Medan for a more batter medical treatment. Using the hospital's ambulance, they took Roy to Medan for a better treatment.

At 09.00 PM, ambulance arrived at HERNA GENERAL HOSPITAL in Medan and paramedic took Roy to ICU. The doctors (neurology and cardio) suggested his wife for a CT Scan. His wife agreed with doctors' idea and CT scanned him.

After completion of CT scanning, the paramedics took him again to ICU and put ventilator and oxygen machines. His wife was in panic and asked me to go to Medan immediately.

On 2 June 2010 me my parents flew to Medan arrived there in the afternoon and rushed to Hospital.

At the Hospital, I had an opportunity to discuss with the doctors (neurology and cardio) but both said that from the medic point of view, my brother had a serious cardio problem and his brain was considered "brain death" (medical term). The doctor decided not to give a medicine to Roy as medicines would not give any treatment to his body and there were useless. The (cardio) doctor explained to me that his heart was so very weak. These doctors asked me to discuss with the family on how is going to do with my Roy.

As the members of the family agreed with the doctors' advice regarding my brother's conditions, we all then agreed to shut down all the medical equipments.

I had an opportunity to unplug the oxygen hose and at about 08.00 PM on 3 June 2010 and replaced it with kind of balloon respiration. At 20.10 the doctor has checked his pulse and heart beat and considered that my brother pass away. We invited a priest in a small congregation for praying.

We then prepared all the tings for my brother's funeral.

At 02.30 AM on 4 June 2010, we took my brother's corpse to my father's home town in Lumban Lintong. Arrived there at 06.00 AM.

I was just surprised that so many my brother's friends came to my Grand Father's house to give there condolence. I will conclude that when he was alive, he got so many Friends that love him.

Before the funeral, we conducted the traditional ceremony and took him to the graveyard at 04.00 PM.

We gave our last condolence in the morning on the following day and flew back to Jakarta at 5.35 PM.

Farewell my beloved brother, we will miss you.
